MicroTrainer – Relay Basics Electrical Training System

The Micro Trainer Relay is a compact, fully assembled printed circuit board training tool designed for hands-on automotive electrical instruction. Each unit features a custom 9V PCB with both a 4-pin SPST and 5-pin SPDT automotive relay, surface-mount LEDs, slide switches, flyback diode protection circuitry, and a 9V battery — all housed in a two-piece 3D-printed base. The compact 4″ × 4″ form factor makes it ideal for individual student use in classroom settings. The Micro Trainer Relay supports ASE A6 (Electrical/Electronic Systems) curriculum and is designed for hands-on instruction in relay operation, coil energization, contact switching, diode protection, and basic relay diagnostics.

Each classroom kit includes 24 trainers in a Milwaukee PACKOUT case with custom-cut foam inserts for secure storage and transport.

Product Details

The MicroTrainer Relay Card is a compact, hands-on training tool designed to help students understand how electromagnetic relays work in DC circuits. Perfect for classroom or lab environments, it introduces the foundational principles of relay operation, coil energization, and switched circuit control through real-world, measurable examples.

Each unit includes a populated PCB with relay components, a 9V battery holder, 9V battery, and a 3D-printed protective base.

Curriculum Alignment

The Micro Trainer Relay aligns with ASE Education Foundation standards for A6 (Electrical/Electronic Systems) and supports the following instructional areas:

  • Relay Operation — Electromagnetic coil energization, armature movement, contact switching (NO/NC)
  • 4-Pin vs 5-Pin Relays — SPST (single pole single throw) and SPDT (single pole double throw) relay configurations
  • Circuit Control — Low-current coil circuits controlling high-current load circuits, switch integration
  • Diode Protection — Flyback diode function, back-EMF suppression, ECU/driver circuit protection
  • Relay Diagnostics — Systematic troubleshooting — control side (pins 85–86) and load side (pins 30, 87, 87a)

A complete Canvas-ready curriculum package is available and includes lesson pages, presentation slides, ASE-style quizzes, and hands-on activity worksheets.
